PARENTING WHILE RUNNING MY half MARATHON

Yesterday, I completed the Oakland half Marathon. It was good, bad, as well as ugly. I’ve never been a quick runner as well as my expectations are quite well handled in terms of my own athletic prowess. My race goal was to total it as well as enjoy the day.

Before leaving the home for the event, I let my hubby understand that I truly really really hoped he could bring the kids somewhere along the path to applaud me on, if it wasn’t as well much trouble, or even if it was a bit as well much trouble. To that end, I made my own indication that stated “GO mom GO” as well as laid it out on the breakfast table next to two cowbells for making noise. during the race, I texted him so they may understand where to discover me.

I was delighted as well as surprised when I saw my oldest son running as well as cheering for me around Mile 8. You understand I wasn’t expecting to be seen at that moment, since he caught me walking as well as eating a mini muffin instead of running at top speed. however I liked it.

(Sign upside-down? even better)

Once Holden saw me running, he started chasing me, which I welcomed. Within 30 seconds, he asked me where his shirt was for his music performance later that day. After all, now he had my ear. Next, he lamented that he didn’t get any type of of his after-school class picks. (Daddy had to register without me that morning as well as did a great task for a rookie!) Can I do something about this? Holden wonders. I am wondering if I will surface this race.

Once we caught up with dad as well as bit brothers, my heart burst with the sight of my full variety of spawn cheering me on.

You can see Holden with his indication right behind me. bit siblings Milo as well as Sawyer are the orange-hoodied hustling a smaller person on the sidewalk. I pulled over for a quick smooch as well as readied myself to get more words of encouragement. Sawyer asked me to repair his jammed cowbell. Typical.

All the races as well as all the miles of pretending other people’s “Run, Mommy!” indications were for me, as well as I got to parent them while running. I spent the next mile in giggles, reflecting on the truth that nevertheless fast-paced I move with their space, my boys are prepared to reach out as well as grab me whenever they can.
